Summary:  
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining analysis and reporting of organization’s financials to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
·         Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of all journal entries.
·         Reconciles accounts.
·         Prepares intercompany entries and assist with closing subsidiary ledgers.
·         Verifies transactions for accuracy and completion.
·         Maintains the general ledger.
·         Prepares premium tax returns.
·         Assists with audit preparation. 
·         Assists with month end, quarter end, and year end close.
·         Resolves account discrepancies.
·         Analyzes financial statements.
·         Prepares and/or assists with the preparation of financial statements.
·         Reviews documents, receipts, invoices, travel expenses, reimbursements, requests for reimbursement or other payments, billing statements, bank records and other documents.
·         Recommends ways to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
·         Generates general ledger reports as needed for Controller or CFO.
·         Ensures proper preparation, retention, and organization of records of organization’s financial transactions and activities.
·         Reviews internal controls.
·         Responds to inquiries by external auditors, and management.
·         Prepares payroll and ensure accuracy.
·         Assists with benefit administration.
·         Assists and mentors junior staff.
·         Cross train with Controller
·         Ad hoc reporting through report writers
·         Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:

Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, required. Five to seven years of progressive accounting experience, required. 
 
Licenses/Credentials
  • CPA or working towards a CPA designation preferred.
 
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and strong financial analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills to include interpretation and preparation of financial statements, finding inconsistencies in records and reports, understanding of insurance regulations and GAAP accounting. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.  
  • Statutory accounting is a plus.
  • Strong technological skills with ability to use multiple computer applications and programs.  
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.  
  • Advanced use of Excel including pivot tables.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate across many levels within the organization as well as externally.
  • Strong organizational skills and able to work with little or no supervision.
